Outer quote mark The '99 Bèze just continues to get better and better with every passing year. A flat out gorgeously complex nose is comprised by spice, earth, minerality and still fresh red and black Pinot fruit aromas. There is excellent richness to the intense and beautifully well-delineated medium-bodied flavors that are blessed with plenty of mouth coating dry extract that confers a seductive texture onto the strikingly persistent finish. Like the '99 Chambertin, while this could be drunk now I would strongly advise holding it for at least another 5 years and 10 would probably be better. Tasted many times and this only seems to go from strength to strength. In a word, exquisite.

Outer quote mark The ’99 Rousseau Bèze is a terrific bottle of wine that is more forward than is the norm for one of Rousseau’s two big guns in a top vintage. The nose is deep and complex, soaring from the glass in a mélange of sappy black cherries, plums, orange rind, woodsmoke, a bit of meat, earth, dark chocolate and toasty new oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, lush and opulent, with fine depth at the core, impeccable balance, moderate tannins, and excellent length and grip on the complex finish. This is a dynamite bottle of wine that will be hard to resist in its youth, but should deliver a much more complete picture with another seven to ten years of bottle age. But bury it deep, as it will be a temptation its whole life.
